Long before having kids we were globe trotters. It was easy, all we needed was a passport and a small carry-on bag. But now we have three kids under the age of 12. Very early on we decided we were not going to let our growing family hinder our travels around the globe.

Some thought and still think that we are crazy.

Traveling with kids may seem like a daunting endeavor to some, but it's also one of the most rewarding experiences you can give to your children. Beyond the excitement of discovering new places and making lasting memories, family travel offers a unique opportunity for children to better understand the world around them.

In this blog, we'll explore the importance of traveling with kids and how it enriches their perspectives.

One of the most significant advantages of traveling with kids is exposing them to different cultures. When children encounter diverse customs, traditions, and languages, it broadens their horizons and promotes cultural sensitivity. They learn that the world is a mosaic of people, each with their own unique way of life. This early exposure fosters respect, empathy, and open-mindedness, qualities that are invaluable in today's globalized world.

Traveling offers a hands-on education that goes beyond what any textbook can provide. Kids can see historical sites, explore museums, and engage with interactive exhibits that bring history, science, and art to life. These experiences make learning enjoyable and memorable, sparking curiosity and a thirst for knowledge.

Traveling with kids allows them to develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. They learn to navigate new environments, communicate with unfamiliar people, and adapt to different situations. These skills are not only essential for travel but also for personal growth and development.

Over the years we have missed flights, forgot to book hotels, showed up to pick up a rental car that wasn’t there just to name a few of our misadventures. Traveling often comes with its fair share of challenges, whether it's navigating public transportation in a foreign city or resolving unexpected itinerary changes. Our kids have had to learn to adapt and develop problem-solving skills. They have become more resilient and capable of handling adversity with grace. Mostly because they didn’t have a choice.

Exposing children to the beauty of the natural world through travel can instill a deep appreciation for the environment. Whether it's hiking in national parks, snorkeling in coral reefs, or simply enjoying breathtaking landscapes, these experiences cultivate a love for nature and a sense of responsibility for its preservation.

One of the greatest joys of traveling with kids is time. Specifically, time spent together as a family. Traveling as a family creates opportunities for quality bonding time. Shared experiences, from trying new foods to exploring new places, strengthen family connections and create cherished memories that last a lifetime.

By including our kids in out travel plans, we have helped ignite their sense of curiosity and wonder. Travel encourages them to ask questions, seek answers, and develop a lifelong love of exploration. This curiosity had extended into their academic and personal lives, driving them to pursue their interests and passions.

Traveling with kids is more than just a vacation; it's an investment in their education, character, and worldview. It helps them grow into well-rounded individuals with a deep appreciation for diversity, a love for learning, and a strong sense of adventure. So, don't hesitate to pack your bags, hit the road, and embark on journeys that will shape your children's understanding of the world and their place in it.

Traveling together is an unforgettable adventure that can positively impact your family's life for years to come.

So book that trip and take the kids along.

Safe travels!
